The crewneck sweatshirt made its debut at Alabama in 1920 and by the 1932 Olympic Games was a staple of athletic women’s wardrobes as well. Our update tweaks the silhouette with dropped shoulders and dolman sleeves and utilizes a recycled cotton and Tencel blend that’s soft and breathable but with the durability you expect from a sweatshirt. The fabric’s brushed back is peached and cozy.
We named our Union Crew and Shorts for Babe Didrikson’s achievement at the Amateur Athletic Union Championships. Competing for her company’s industrial team the “Golden Cyclones,” 21-year old Babe won five events and tied for first in a sixth, single handedly winning the team championship and securing her a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the 1932 Games. In Los Angeles, Babe set four world records, won two goals medals and one silver. She can be seen on the medal stand in a cotton crewneck that inspired our own design.
Summer in New England can be just as unpredictable as the rest of the year. At Camp in Vermont, the Union Crew proved its versatility working just as well on a morning shakeout as it did as a cover-up on the way to lunch.
